THE COURSE: In the seventh and eighth grades, Spanish is a daily elective. Students who enroll in 7th grade Spanish two-year program are expected to continue in the 8th grade. Students who enroll in the one-year program cover the same material in a much more condensed manner. The curriculum is equivalent to the first year of high school Spanish, and generally speaking, students who successfully complete the course with at least a “B” average are recommended for Spanish II in high school. As such, this class is graded on an academic basis equal to English, Social Studies, Math, and Science. The goals of the class are to achieve basic communication skills in Spanish and gain an appreciation of Hispanic cultures.
THE 2-YEAR CLASS consists of the following:
➡ Oral Activities (Class Participation)
➡ Written Activities:
-"Diario" - notes in spiral notebook
-"Cuaderno" - workbook
-“En Uso” - open-book test
➡ Textbook (one to be kept at home)
➡ “Take-Home Tutor” CD (to be used for studying at home)
➡ Regular Homework (review of each day’s lesson, workbook pages, online activities, assessment project work)
➡ Quizzes
➡ Authentic Final Assessment projects (one per two "Etapas" - sections) - Go to the Mi Manera & Proyectos pages for an example and more information.

THE HOMEWORK for Spanish is above and beyond the weekly allotment of time for Academy subjects so students should be capable of managing this additional academic load. Homework is posted here on the “Tarea” page and reviewed on Mondays at the beginning of class. Students are responsible for checking the posted homework daily and keeping track of assignments and due dates which are subject to change.
